Chinese Tang San Cai

Chinese tang san cai is a type of Chinese traditional handicraft which has a history spanning thousands of years. Tang san cai is also known as tricolor glazed pottery.

This type of handmade glazed product featuring outstanding and exquisite craftsmanship was first created in the Northern and Southern Dynasty of China around 1,400 years ago. During the Tang Dynasty from the years 618 through 907 AD, the production of this type of pottery reached its peak which is the primary reason it is referred to as Tang San Cai pottery.

The city of Luoyang was the eastern capital of the Henan Province in ancient times and home to Tang San Cai pottery. Most of the unearthed Tang San Cai pottery pieces were found here.

This type of pottery features finely crafted details with major tones in yellow, green, and white. It is fired in the kiln with a lead glaze which helps give it a complex variety of different colors and hues.

The process to produce this type of pottery is fairly complex. The pottery is first baked in a kiln until it reaches a temperature of around 1,100 degrees C. Then it is removed and a glaze is applied. The product is then returned to the kiln where it is fired to a temperature of around 900 degrees C.
